What We Do
SAFEHOME’s shelter offers a confidential, safe, and healing atmosphere for women and children to love, gain inner strength, build self-esteem, and heal. Every year, more than 350 women and children find safety, help, and hope at SAFEHOME’s shelter.

SAFEHOME’s 24-hour crisis hotline is always available to provide a listening ear, help with safety planning, and community resources.

Licensed therapists provide individual counseling for adults and children. Support groups are offered for adults and teens on a variety of special interest topics.

Advocates offer help to victims of domestic violence in health care settings such as hospitals and medical clinics. SAFEHOME trains more than 2,000 medical professionals each year to recognize and respond to victims of domestic violence. All five Johnson County hospitals are designated Safe Place Hospitals.

Children receive supportive services for school, health care, and daily needs. SAFEHOME’s licensed children and family therapists are skilled in working with children exposed to or affected by family violence.

Rent assistance and supportive services are available to families who transition to independent living.

Advocates assist clients with budgeting and financial management individually and in structured classes.
